Instructions for authors

Set margins at 2.5 cm all round.
Select Arial in size 11 point font.
Write the title in BOLD CAPITALS. The title should be as brief as possible but long enough to indicate clearly the nature of the study. Capitalise the first letter of each word. No full stop at the end.
A “blind” selection process will be used. No identifying features such as names of hospitals, medical schools, clinics or cities should be listed in the title or text of the abstract. Do not include the names of authors either. The names of authors and their affiliations (institutions) will be submitted on-line when you submit the abstract.
Type in the text of the abstract following the instructions to authors in Pediatric Anesthesia. References (maximum 3) should be cited in Vancouver style.
Use the following headings for a structured layout: Introduction with specified aim or hypothesis, Methods, Ethics Committee approval if appropriate, indicate statistical tests used, Results and Discussion with a succinct conclusion.
One figure or table is permitted which should be incorporated into the text.
The complete abstract should not exceed one page or 500 words (including any table or figure).
Acknowledge any source of financial support at the end of the abstract.
Special instructions for online submission
Once you have registered on the abstract website (entrance to the submitting system) you will be sent an username and a password as well as a template which you should save on your computer.
The template can be extended to 1 page of A4 by clicking on the bottom and sides of the outline and pulling them out towards the edge of the page.
Paste your abstract (title and text only) into the template. If your abstract is the correct size (500 words) it should fit the template. If not you will have to shorten it.
When you are satisfied that the abstract fits the template go back to the abstract website and click on “Entrance to the submitting system”.
Log in using your email address and password.
Print out the “How to use the online abstract submission system” file and use these to complete your submission.
When asked to select a mode of presentation, click poster for poster only presentation or oral or oral or poster presentation.
If you wish to submit more than one abstract you can download a new template from the website or save the one you have with a new name and paste in the new abstract. You can use the same email address and password for each abstract submitted.
